The online learning platform www.smartadulteducation.eu is officially launched, a digital tool to support teachers and educators in their virtual training at this time when COVID-19 has made necessary, more than ever, the help for the training and evaluation of online skills with adults with fewer technological skills. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused and is still currently causing adverse effects in many socioeconomic fields, with education being one of the areas which has been most severely affected by the initial measures of confinement and the present recommendations on interpersonal distancing and on the prevention of large gatherings in any given space.
As part of the contingency plans established for the current academic year in many educational institutions, provisions have been made to implement remote teaching methodologies through e-learning or blended learning approaches, in which the use of ICTs provides additional support to the traditional sessions whose face-to-face time has been significantly reduced.
However, one aspect that is largely overlooked in education planning and management is the affective sphere of adult learners, their level of motivation to use digital tools and, at the same time, the difficulties of teachers in managing digital training on several key competences identified by the European Commission as fundamental areas for the social and professional integration of European citizens.
The European project “SAE – Smart Adult Education” has developed a platform https://www.smartadulteducation.eu/ which contains a collection of digital tools such:
- Digital Learning Toolkit: to support teachers and educators working in the field of training of low-skilled adults
- Assessment Competences Toolkit: a self-reflection model of key competences aimed at learners
- SAE Guide: that illustrates how to use these tools.
